Commercial classifications
Banana pseudostem layers produce fibres with different fineness and strength. Each offer identifies the extraction, cleaning, softening or degumming level and the intended end use.
Selected pseudostem fibre for spinning trials, cotton or other natural-fibre blends, woven craft products, home furnishings and premium handicrafts after buyer-approved processing.
Prepared fibre for non-wovens, composite reinforcement, interior panels, biodegradable mats, cordage and other technical applications subject to the buyer’s process requirements.
Short fibre and prepared pseudostem material for specialty paper, moulded fibre products, biodegradable trays, craft paper and other pulp-based applications.
Species distinction: this page covers fibre extracted from the pseudostem of cultivated banana or plantain after fruit harvest. Musa textilis is Abacá / Manila fibre and is a separate product with its own PCT reference, grading and sourcing page.
Technical specification
Banana fibre properties change significantly with cultivar, pseudostem layer, extraction and treatment. The approved sample and signed specification therefore control final acceptance.

Sourcing & logistics
Commercial readiness depends on consistent extraction, drying, cleaning, bale density and moisture-safe storage.
Both figures are indicative only and must be reconfirmed through the supplier’s actual bale dimensions, packing list and stuffing plan.
Trial lots should establish processing and application fit before an FCL programme. FOB, CFR or CIF offers and L/C at sight or mutually approved T/T terms can be evaluated under the signed contract.

Classification note: Pakistan’s FY 2025–26 tariff places raw or processed but unspun residual vegetable textile fibres under heading 53.05. Banana pseudostem fibre is generally referenced under residual PCT 5305.0090, while raw Abacá is separately listed under PCT 5305.0020. Final classification, duty and taxes must be confirmed by the appointed customs agent before filing.
