AGE Global Rice Weekly Review
Pakistan & International Rice Market Outlook
2 September 2026
The global rice market enters September with a mixed but increasingly sensitive outlook. Comfortable global supplies continue to limit the immediate risk of a major price surge, while weather uncertainty, energy costs, freight conditions and changing government import policies are creating fresh risks for buyers and exporters.
Pakistan Rice Market
Pakistan remains competitive across several international rice segments, although aggressive Indian export pricing continues to pressure ordinary white and parboiled rice.
Current indicative Pakistan export levels place IRRI-6 White 5% at around US$400–420/MT FOB, while IRRI-6 Parboiled 5% is approximately US$410–430/MT FOB. Actual offers can vary according to quality, crop year, broken percentage, sortex, packing, quantity and payment terms.
Pakistan's stronger commercial position remains in Basmati and premium rice. Indicative 1121 Basmati Sella is around US$1,135–1,175/MT FOB, while 1121 Steam is approximately US$1,160–1,200/MT FOB.
As Pakistan moves closer to new-crop price discovery, exporters and buyers should closely monitor paddy availability, crop quality and milling yields before taking large speculative positions.
International Export Market
India remains the strongest price competitor for Pakistan. Indian white and parboiled rice quotations continue to challenge Pakistani exporters in highly price-sensitive bulk markets.
Vietnam remains a major competitor across Asian destinations, supported by its geographical advantage in Southeast Asia.
Thailand continues to trade at comparatively higher levels in several white-rice categories, creating potential opportunities for Pakistani exporters where specifications, quality and freight economics are favorable.
Global Rice Demand Watch
The Philippines remains one of the most important Asian markets to watch. Import requirements, domestic crop conditions and government policy could materially influence regional demand during the coming months.
Malaysia remains relevant for Pakistani Basmati, aromatic and selected white-rice categories.
Bangladesh should be monitored closely for government tenders and policy-driven buying opportunities. Import demand can increase rapidly when domestic availability tightens.
Indonesia currently requires a more cautious approach because comfortable inventories may restrict immediate large-scale import requirements.
China remains commercially important, particularly for targeted Basmati, aromatic and specialized rice opportunities.
AGE Weekly Outlook
IRRI-6 White: Sideways to Slightly Firm Parboiled Rice: Firm Bias IRRI-9 / C9: Steady to Firm 1121 Basmati: Firm
The major risks ahead include El Niño, crop weather, energy and fertilizer costs, freight disruptions, currency movements and changes in government trade policies.
For Pakistani exporters, competing with India purely on the lowest price could significantly compress margins. The stronger strategy is to focus on quality consistency, premium rice, Basmati, selective African and Gulf markets, and destinations where Pakistan maintains a favorable landed-cost or product advantage.
